Is our knowledge killing us?

By bhittai

Kids are symbol of happiness. They are happy because they don’t have too much to think and worry about. A baby is happy until it comes to conflict of interests or ideas with others. Two things cause issues in life: survival and ideal. Survival is one’s physical existence and ideal is one’s logical existence. Both of these matters seem to be critical for us.

Challenge to survival is understandable, but why we become so much emotional and hard about our ideals so that many a times we even sacrifice our survival for upholding our ideals? This clearly hints at something big we care about which is our logical existence or in other words our real existence in this universe.

As we grow older we gain more knowledge, with more knowledge and wisdom we should have been better and happier people. Instead, we become hardliners, start fighting over things which are natural only and turn to be worse than kids. This tells that something is not right with our knowledge, either it is fake or incomplete.

We would be better off without such a knowledge which transforms a human into an inhuman. Is our knowlege killing us? Shah Lateef’s stanza fits well here:

الله ڏاهِي َم ٿيان ، ڏاهيون ڏ کَ ڏسن
مون سان مون پرين، ڀورائي ۾ ڀال ڪيا
